Sara is a Licensed Professional Counselor - Intern with a Master's Degree in Counseling and Development from Texas Women's University in Denton, Texas. Sara also has a Master's Degree in Human Development and Early Childhood Disorders as well as a Dual Bachelors of Science in Child Development and Psychology. Prior to joining DCTC, Sara worked at several outpatient clinics providing therapy to individuals, couples, teens, and young children. Her work experience includes the Collin County Children's Advocacy Center and Texas Woman's University's Children and Family Therapy Clinic.
Sara is experienced in treating child abuse, domestic violence, sex trafficking, anxiety, depression, PTSD, attachment disorders, grief and loss (including grief related to a disability), children and adults with disabilities, ADHD, Autism Spectrum Disorder, and other behavioral disorders. She has experience treating adults, teens, children, persons with disabilities and the aged population. Sara has experience with Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Child-Centered Play Therapy, Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, The Gottman Method, Judith Herman's Trauma and Recovery approach, and play-based assessment of developmental delays. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is utilized to treat anxiety-based disorders including PTSD, emotional/sexual trauma, and negative beliefs about oneself. Sara is experienced in working with the LGBTQ population including couples work.
In her free time, Sara enjoys watching movies, painting, gardening, and cycling.
