Kathryn, better known as Kathy, is a Licensed Professional Counselor intern and Licensed Chemical Dependency Counselor with a Master's Degree in Counseling and Development from Texas Woman's University in Denton, Texas. Prior to joining DCTC, Kathy worked in a residential treatment center providing counseling to women who were overcoming addiction along with depression and anxiety. She also worked with children 3-18 in the foster system as a result of neglect or abuse. In addition to her work with children, Kathy provided support to foster parents working on coping and parenting skills. She has worked for an outpatient counseling center providing individual therapy to adults struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief.
Kathy has experience treating children, teens, and adults and specializes in sexual/emotional trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and addiction. She is experienced in working with the LGBTQ population. Kathy focuses on the importance of the relationship with her clients and works to totally accept people without judgment. She utilizes CBT, often with mindfulness, to seek out the origin of negative thoughts and explore if they are realistic.
In her free time, Kathy enjoys spending time with her two dogs: a Doberman named Molly and a Havanese named Bailey. She enjoys travel, reading, pottery, and yoga. Kathy is a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT-200) and prefers a gentle and restorative yoga practice.
