She then attended The University of North Texas in Denton where she obtained a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. During her master's program, Crystal interned with youth and adults struggling with substance abuse as well as co-occuring anxiety, depression, PTSD, and adjustment issues. Prior to joining DCTC, Crystal was a community health educator with a local nonprofit where she conducted psycho-education groups in a variety of settings. These included substance abuse treatment centers, schools, juvenile detention centers, foster homes, and community colleges. The psycho-educational topics included healthy relationships, self-esteem, negotiation skills, and sexuality education.

Crystal specializes in working with adults, adolescents, and children in the areas of adjustment concerns, trauma, PTSD, major life changes, anxiety, depression, managing chronic diseases, and substance abuse. When working with clients, Crystal utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectic Behavioral Therapy skills (DBT), such as mindfulness based techniques, and incorporates skills training on topics such as emotion regulation and healthy communication skills. She is also trained in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) which is utilized to treat anxiety-based disorders including PTSD, emotional/sexual trauma, and negative beliefs about oneself.

Crystal has many years of experience advocating for and working with the LGBTQ population and acknowledges their unique struggles and experiences. She strives to facilitate a positive therapeutic relationship with clients and focus on a strength-based approach to facilitate growth and self-efficacy in coping with their unique daily lives.

In her free time, Crystal enjoys visiting her family in her hometown of College Station, Texas, especially spending time with her two nieces. She spends most of her downtime with friends, family, and her fur-children, reading (novels and research), and planning her next "adventure."
