Ashley is a Licensed Professional Counselor - Intern born and raised in Little Elm, Texas. She holds a Master's Degree in Counseling and Development from The University of North Texas in Denton. Prior to joining DCTC, Ashley worked at an outpatient counseling office providing individual and group therapy to adolescents and adults.
Ashley is experienced in treating emotional/sexual trauma, anxiety disorders, depression, self-esteem, Bipolar Disorder, grief, self-harm, and relationship related issues. She has an equal amount of experience treating adults as she does working with teens and children as young as 3 years old. Therefore, her skill set is versatile and adapted to fit each individual. Ashley has worked with the LGBTQ population and understands their unique struggles and experiences. When working with adolescents, Ashley focuses on building a solid relationship and then challenging unwanted or disruptive behavior. When treating very young children, she utilizes therapeutic play techniques.
Ashley is currently pursuing continuing education to become a Registered Play Therapist. She is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Trauma Focused- Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR). EMDR is utilized to treat anxiety and trauma based disorders and has been proven effective to reduce a variety of symptoms. Ashley believes that client needs vary and while she may conceptualize their symptoms from a certain perspective, she uses techniques and skills from different theoretical backgrounds. She believes all behavior is purposeful and that one’s experiences shape their thoughts, feelings, and beliefs.
In her free time, Ashley enjoys traveling and hiking. On weekends, she and her fiancé often take their dog, Ben, to a local dog park and try new restaurants.
