Melissa has worked with both teens and adults in inpatient psychiatric hospitals and outpatient settings. She worked for Glen Oaks Hospital in Greenville, Texas where she managed the Adult Partial Hospitalization Program as well as Timberlawn Psychiatric Hospital in Dallas, Texas as a therapist in the Trauma Program. Melissa specializes in treating anxiety based disorders, substance abuse, depression and obsessive thoughts. She also has extensive knowledge and experience working with dissociative disorders including Dissociative Identity Disorder (Multiple Personalities) as well as personality disorders and victims of sexual abuse or other emotional traumas. Melissa is fully trained in EMDR therapy and utilizes her training in the Gottman Method to provide couples therapy. She is comfortable working with both teens and adults.
Melissa attended graduate school at Texas A&M Commerce and was a member of Chi Sigma Iota in college which is a Counseling Academic and Professional Honor Society. She is also involved with the Texas and American Counseling Associations.
Counseling is a second career for Melissa as she previously worked with the Dallas Police Department as an Intelligence Research Specialist after getting her undergraduate degree in Criminal Justice then took time off to stay at home with her children. She is also a Black Belt in Tae Kwon Do and taught and managed a black belt school for several years before deciding to go back to school in 2010 to get her Master’s Degree in Counseling. Melissa says she is comfortable treating any disorder and enjoys a challenge.
Melissa is a member of The EMDR International Association (EMDRIA). She is a Certified EMDR Therapist and an EMDR Approved Consultant providing consultation and ongoing education to other EMDR trained therapists.
Melissa is a facilitator for the Caruth Police Institute which provides leadership courses for North Texas law enforcement and public safety related agencies throughout the DFW Metroplex. She also presented at the 4th Annual Women of Law Enforcement Conference. She provides education on topics such as Critical Incident Stress Management and Work/Life Balance.
