Laurie is a Licensed Professional Counselor - Intern under the supervision of Kendhal Herrera, LPC-Supervisor. Laurie earned her Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from the University of Nevada at Las Vegas and her Master's Degree in Counseling from the prestigious Southern Methodist University here in Dallas, Texas.
Laurie's experience includes working with couples, individuals, families and groups focusing on marital problems, anxiety, depression, sexual abuse and trauma. She has worked at a psychiatric hospital where she worked with adolescents and adults with sexual trauma, substance abuse issues, depression, anxiety, psychosis and Bipolar Disorder. Laurie has sought out specialized training in the treatment of substance abuse, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and several couples therapy approaches. She is trained in The Gottman Method and is a Prepare and Enrich facilitator, both of which are therapies proven effective with even the most high-conflict couples.
In addition to private practice, Laurie also works providing Applied Behavioral Analysis (ABA Therapy) to children and adolescents on the Autism spectrum. She has received special training at The University of North Texas in Behavioral Analysis. Laurie also works with parents and siblings of these children to help them learn how to connect to and interact with their loved one. She also helps process their emotions and experiences about how they are impacted by Autism as this is often not addressed.
In her free time, Laurie enjoys exercising and she teaches Pure Barre classes with her sister, Heidi, who is also a therapist at DCTC. Laurie enjoys spending time with her 3 dogs Boston, Cubby and Day-Z and her new husband trying local eateries and going to sporting events.
