Crystal is a Licensed Professional Counselor - Intern under the supervision of Tara Cavanaugh, LPC-Supervisor. Crystal relocated to the Dallas area after attending The University of Texas at San Antonio where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Community Health. She then attended The University of North Texas where she obtained a Master's Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. During her master's program, Crystal interned with youth and adults experiencing substance abuse, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and adjustment issues.
Prior to joining DCTC, Crystal was a community health educator with a local nonprofit where she conducted psycho-education groups in a variety of settings. Topics included healthy relationships, self-esteem, negotiation skills, and health education. Crystal currently works for another local non-profit where she provides case management and support to clients with chronic diseases. She has a background treating adults, adolescents, and children in the areas of adjustment issues, trauma, major life changes, anxiety, depression, PTSD, and substance abuse. When treating clients, Crystal utilizes Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness based techniques, and incorporates skills training on topics such as emotion regulation and healthy communication skills.
Crystal has many years of experience advocating for and working with the LGBTQ+ population and acknowledges their unique struggles and experiences. She strives to facilitate a positive therapeutic relationship with clients and focus on a strength-based approach to facilitate growth and self-efficacy in coping with their unique daily lives.
In her free time, Crystal enjoys visiting her family in her hometown of College Station, Texas, especially spending time with her two nieces. She spends most of her downtime reading novels, hanging out with her fur-children, traveling, exploring the DFW area, or taking road trips to camp with her partner.
